Neuromodulators

What are neuromodulators, and are they safe?

BOTOX® is a neuromodulator used to diminish aging effects and prevent lines, wrinkles, and lax skin from developing. BOTOX® is a purified strain of botulinum toxin (type A) that temporarily blocks the movements of the underlying tissues and muscle. Facial lines and wrinkles are the results of expressions and muscular contractions. BOTOX® can dramatically enhance facial aesthetics because of its relaxing effect on the facial muscles, which diminishes the fine lines as muscles relax.

At Tranquility Aesthetics, we also use other brands of neuromodulators, including XEOMIN® and JEUVEAU®. These neuromodulators have been tested for safety and are FDA-approved for anyone 18 or older.

What areas are treated with neuromodulators?

Aside from facial lines and wrinkles, neuromodulators are used to treat numerous other areas such as a dimpled chin, masseter reduction, platysma bands (bands of the neck), “gummy smile,” accentuating the lips (“lip flip”), and the treatment of excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis).

Who can get neuromodulators?

As a rejuvenation procedure, BOTOX® is popular among both men and women, young and old, because of its amazing results. Neuromodulators can be particularly effective when used as a preventative treatment. Starting at a younger age will effectively reduce signs of aging as you grow older. However, neuromodulators are not a permanent treatment. Moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines will gradually return if you discontinue treatment.

What is the procedure like?

First, you will have a consultation to discuss your concerns and to have an evaluation where your facial expressions, wrinkles, and lines will be evaluated. After the evaluation, a plan is developed by the experts at Tranquility Aesthetics with your input. After your consultation, it is usually a 10–15-minute service. We use a fine needle to target the chosen area, injecting small amounts of BOTOX® or another neuromodulator to the area.

Are there side effects?

Yes, side effects have a slight chance of occurring and may include the following:

  • Redness
  • Bumps at injection sites
  • Bruising
  • Slight bleeding

The less common side effects include headaches and flu-like symptoms (rare) or eyelid drooping, which is also considered an infrequent side effect. The side effects generally resolve quickly.

When will I see the results, and how long do the results last?

You will start to see results between 2-5 days, with a maximum effect around 2 weeks. Results generally last from four to six months. The amount needed to sustain results can be reduced by clients returning for their touch-up treatment promptly. In fact, clients can often significantly reduce the amount needed to sustain results by returning for a touch-up treatment as soon as they detect excess movement in the treated area. Many clients can even require fewer treatments as lines relax and even disappear over time.
